GIRL SCOUT HIGH AWARDS Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia held its area High Awards Ceremony May 1, 2016. Avalon United Methodist Troop 40193 members, Erika Williams, Jayda Clark, and Lauryn Hardy received the Bronze Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can receive. The Bronze Award is also the third highest award in girl scouting. The Bronze Award requires girls to commit twenty hours each to a community "take action" project. Jayda, Lauryn and Erika made Backpack Care Packs where they made pillow case backpacks filled with a travel pillow and toiletries which were donated to Faith Community Outreach Center for homeless women and children. The girls said they wanted to make the backpacks so that people who lived at the shelter would always have a pillow to sleep on and always have a way to keep their personal items with them. All three girls are rising 7th graders and are currently Cadets. Pictured left to right: Jayda Clark, Lauryn Hardy, Erika Williams, and Valerie Brown-Williams (troop leader)
